The earliest years of a child’s life lay the foundations for how they experience themselves, others and the world around them.

At Nido & Beyond, I support families to create home environments and relationships that nurture connection, confidence, independence and a genuine love of learning.

Drawing on Montessori principles, child development and respectful communication, I work alongside parents to make practical, meaningful changes that fit their child, their family and their home.

Nido means nest in Italian — a place of safety, belonging and growth.

Just as a nest provides a secure foundation from which a young bird eventually ventures into the world, a nurturing home can give children the security they need to gradually develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of self.

I believe that children flourish when they experience:

  • Connection Feeling seen, understood, respected and emotionally safe.

  • Belonging Knowing that they are a valued and capable part of their family.

  • Independence Having opportunities to participate, make choices and do things for themselves.

  • Respect Being treated as a whole person, while being supported within the boundaries they need.

  • Freedom to grow Having an environment that invites exploration, curiosity and learning.

You are the most important and influencial person in your child's life.

The Montessori Method

The Montessori Method is an approach to education and to life which respects the laws of Nature. Children are carefully observed, and through observation the adult is given the opportunity to witness their true nature: what interests and what motivates them, what calms and what unsettles them. In order to facilitate an optimal development, the adult can prepare themselves by quietening their mind and by putting judgements aside to allow the child to reveal themselves. Then, through an understanding of how to best support this development, the adult can offer an environment rich in adequate stimuli. It is also profoundly significant that the adult maintains a degree of mindfulness in the way they relates to the child, as the child will develop an image of themselves based on the way the adult makes them feel. A carefully prepared environment supports the child in cultivating their own interests and expands their skills and understanding of life in its entirety, through manipulation of materials and activities which are age appropriate and have an intelligent purpose. The child then tends to develop desirable characteristics such as confidence, positive self-esteem, sense of responsibility, resilience, creativity, compassion and empathy just to name a few.
The adult plays a fundamental role in the process of formation each young individual follows.

About Mindfulness        Practice

The concept of Mindfulness seems to have gained popularity in recent years, with many professionals from different fields such as neuroscience, psychology and cellular biology calling on this practice to bring positive changes in many areas of one's life. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of this practice in reducing the many undesirable effects of stress, in improving memory and concentration abilities in students, in facilitating emotional regulation, and in general in improving one's own perception of life through an equanimous disposition and a calmer approach to everyday's ups and downs.
In today's society, where young individuals seem to be increasingly distracted, numbed and disconnected from their inner self and from others, and where children seem to be experiencing a growing number of stressors while they try to live up to expectations to perform in different areas of their life, Mindfulness Practice can be of help. Mindfulness Practice can help us become conscious of our feelings, of our thought patterns, of beliefs about ourselves and our self-worth, of our fears and frustrations as well as of our strengths, desires and aspirations. Mindfulness Practice can help us bring changes in those areas of our life where we feel the need to, by focusing our attention on the present moment, the only moment in which change is possible. We do have a choice. In order to support our children in the endeavor to reach their potentials, not only on an intellectual level but most importantly emotionally, socially and spiritually, it is very important that we recognize the need to bring balance and calmness within ourselves. We ought to take action steps to become aware of ourselves, of habitual actions and reactions, of belief systems and habitual thinking patterns, in order to move away from what does not serve us any longer, and to move closer to who we want and are meant to be. Only then can we be of best support to our children...leading by example!
